Dress to impress: cutesy wrapping ideas to elevate your Christmas gifts

dressing your gifts to impress

“From cutesy gift wrap and luxe velvet ribbon, to rich colours and classic patterns, and handmade touches to top them all off – I hope you can find some inspiration here to elevate your gifts this Christmas.”

I’m back on the blog this week to share some more festive season inspo with you!

Christmas has really kicked into gear in our house the past week – we finally invested in a floor tree after years of not trusting our doggos to be good with one, and the presents are starting to roll on in.

I’ve always been a big gifter – I love shopping so buying gifts for loved ones is always a joy, and making homemade gifts always feels so wholesome too.

There’s something about getting in the spirit of Santa every year that I just love.

So as this season of giving rolls around again, I thought I would share some of the ways I’m dressing my gifts to impress this year. From cutesy gift wrap and luxe velvet ribbon, to rich colours and classic patterns, and handmade touches to top them off – I hope you can find some inspiration here to elevate your Christmas gifts.

1. Gift wrap

Christmas to me, always feels grounded in tradition. So when it comes to gift wrap and bags, I always gravitate towards classic patterns and neutral colours paired with bold green and red.

But I also love to pick wraps that feel modern and quirky too. It’s like choosing wallpaper for your home but for your gifts instead.

This year I found some great wraps and bags (and bargains) at TK Maxx. They had some green and navy tartan gift bags that I just had to have, and the dainty floral wraps paired so well with the bold geometrical pattern of the stripes.

I always try to pick wraps that work well together, whether thats with colours that blend well or create contrast, or patterns that bounce off each other and create visual interest.

I also find it’s best to have a theme or colour palette in mind before diving in.

2. Ribbons and bows

As someone who also runs a gifting company on the side of my main job, I want all of the ribbon and all of the bows this Christmas!

This year I found some gorgeous velvet and linen saddle-stitched ribbon varieties at Provincial Home Living, and instantly knew they would be perfect for my gifts.

I also found some super cute rust velvet clip-on bows online, which work great as both toppers for gifts and also general decorations around the house or on your tree.

When it comes to selecting ribbon, I usually try to mix and match colours that work well together (and also with the gift wrap), but also different textures that help build visual interest.

The luxe of the velvet ribbon works so well against the more casual linen varieties, and a satin ribbon always finishes everything off with a touch of class.

3. Handmade toppers

As with the gifts themselves, I always like to add a little personal touch to my gift wrapping.

It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, and it can absolutely be free! But I feel like it’s a nice way to show a little extra appreciation on top of the gift.

I’ve used some of my handmade crochet projects as toppers before, and the clip-on velvet bows are also a great option. But it can even be as simple as grabbing a sprig of something you’ve got growing in the garden to tie into your ribbon.

There is no denying Christmas is probably the craziest time of year, and there’s no need to go adding to that by stressing over extravagant gifts for the whole family.

But I think these are some pretty easy ways to add a little extra somethin’ somethin’ to your gifts this Christmas without breaking the bank or your back.

I hope you find some joy in giving them a go, happy gifting!
